FAITH PATH SERIES

Faith Paths are a series of intentional events, classes, and small group studies that are aimed at teaching parents at Crossway how to disciple their children at specific developmental stages, and serves to partner with parents in achieving Crossway's vision of seeing the living hope of Jesus surging through the next generation. These 7 Faith Paths are held at various times throughout the ministry year, giving families multiple opportunities to take advantage of each Faith Path as their children grow and enter into new phases of their development.

Baby Dedication: The 1st Step

A Baby Dedication event allows us to mark an important passage in the life of a family: the addition of a new child. We encourage parents to participate with their child as soon as possible upon their arrival in the family; this means that most children who participate are under age 2.

Baby Dedication at Crossway is for any parents who want to be intentional about discipling their child to love and follow Jesus above all else. A dedication event of this nature serves as a reminder to us that raising the children God gave us is a matter of stewardship. Our children are not our own - they belong to God. This event helps remind us of that and gives parents the opportunity to publicly declare their desire to be intentional about raising their children to put God first in their lives. For more information about this event, please contact Andrea Andris

Our next Baby Dedication is Saturday, February 1, 2020

Downtown Campus, 9:00-10:30am

Creating a Rhythm: The 2nd Step

Join us to discover simple, but powerful ways you can leverage your family's unique rhythm to build a strong spiritual foundation for your children. This next step will prepare you to disciple them to become young people who passionately love and follow Jesus above all else, because what happens at home is more important than what happens at church.

This event is designed for parents of children ages 0-4. Childcare is provided, but registration is required. For more information about this event, please contact Melissa Kosman

Positive Discipline: The 3rd Step

A humorous look at parenting, a serious look at discipline for parents of children ages 2-7.

Anyone who plays a significant role in a child’s life is encouraged to attend this valuable Faith Path event at Crossway. 1-2-3 Magic is a national curriculum created by Thomas W. Phelan, Ph.D. In this 3-hour event, Dr. Phelan breaks down the task of parenting into three straightforward jobs:

Controlling Obnoxious Behavior: Learn an amazingly simple technique to get the kids to STOP doing what you don’t want them to do (whining, arguing, tantrums, sibling rivalry, etc).

Encouraging Good Behavior: Learn several effective methods to get your kids to START doing what you want them to do (picking up, eating, going to bed and staying there, chores, etc.)

Strengthening Your Relationships: Learn powerful techniques that will help reinforce the bond between you and your children.

Our next Positive Discipline will be

Saturday, November 9th

Downtown Campus, 9:00am-12:00pm

Childcare will be provided.

Registration opens October 1st.

Spiritual Parenting: The 4th Step

Good behavior isn't what Jesus calls for in the Bible. God wants hearts and souls that are shaped in vibrant faith and love toward Himself and others. In Spiritual Parenting, Michelle Anthony calls us as parents to depend upon God for our children's spiritual and moral development by creating home environments that God can use to beckon our children to him. Parents will be urged toward a heart posture of surrender and faithfulness, and the end goal is a vibrant faith that is passed on from one generation to another. For more information about this event, please contact Andrea Andris

Our Spiritual Parenting classes are held in small groups throughout the year. See our Small Group Page for registration.

Preparing for Adolescence: The 5th Step

What do you say to an adolescent who’s getting ready to enter those turbulent teenage years? Dr. James Dobson, one of America’s leading family psychologists, knows how to speak directly and sincerely to today’s adolescents about the topics that trouble them most. Topics include avoiding feelings of inferiority, handling peer pressure, drug abuse, puberty, sexual development, romantic love, overcoming discouragement, sound decision-making and handling independence.

In this Faith Path, parents will attend a 2-hour session where they will be walked through the topics of Dr. Dobson’s book, and know what to expect and how to dialogue effectively with their pre-adolescent on these important topics. Then the parents will plan an overnight trip with their child (mother/daughter, father/son if possible) and listen to the book “Preparing for Adolescence” on the car-ride to their destination. This trip will allow parent and child to learn together about what is ahead developmentally for the adolescent and have intentional conversations that will open up lines of communication between parent and child for years to come. For more information about this event please contact Andrea Andris

Rites of Passage: The 6th Step

This is the final Faith Path that is still in the development phase, but will likely be a Faith Path where students ages 14-17 will come together with their parents to learn what it looks like to be a Godly man or woman in today’s post-Christian culture. Themes will likely include Biblical relationships, sexuality, digital media, identity and other hot topics that face teens in this age range. It will also likely begin to touch on points that will ultimately lead to Crossway’s 7th and final Faith Path entitled Launch, which focuses on preparing Juniors and Seniors in high school for leaving their homes for either college or the work force after they graduate from high school. For more information about this event please contact Andrea Andris

Launch: The 7th Step

This course is designed for graduating high school seniors and their parents with the aim of creating a space for conversations between student and parents about life after graduation.

The series will help both student and parents talk together about what faith looks like beyond high school. We will read Before You Go by Gerald Fadayomi and each scheduled session through the semester will be designed to create healthy conversations. High School graduation is not the finish line, but this pivotal moment matters. Yes, the relationship will change but parents are still parents and students still need their parents, but in new ways more than ever. This four-part course culminates into Senior Night, a Milestone celebration in which we honor and encourage each of the high school seniors. For more information about this event please contact Jacob Albrecht
