Preparing for Adolescence
What do you say to an adolescent who’s getting ready to enter those turbulent teenage years? Dr. James Dobson, one of America’s leading family psychologists, knows how to speak directly and sincerely to today’s adolescents about the topics that trouble them most. Topics include avoiding feelings of inferiority, handling peer pressure, drug abuse, puberty, sexual development, romantic love, overcoming discouragement, sound decision-making and handling independence.
In this Faith Path, parents will attend a 2-hour session where they will be walked through the topics of Dr. Dobson’s book, and know what to expect and how to dialogue effectively with their pre-adolescent on these important topics. Then the parents will plan an overnight trip with their child (mother/daughter, father/son if possible) and listen to the book “Preparing for Adolescence” on the car-ride to their destination. This trip will allow parent and child to learn together about what is ahead developmentally for the adolescent and have intentional conversations that will open up lines of communication between parent and child for years to come.
